A Suburban Chicago Tribune article for November 20, 1980 reports Colleen Huffstutler’s academic and athletic abilities: "Elgin's volleyball team has more than 'court sense'"

"...Grades are important,'' said Colleen Huffstutler, another second team all-conference pick, whose 3.9 grade point average puts her in the top 15 per cent of her class. "Coach Conway makes sure we concentrate on school work, not just volleyball. If there's a problem with school work and volleyball, school work always comes first.''

Conway admits that the 1980 season looked bleak with only one returning starter. But she felt that the intelligence exhibited by her players would take them a long way. "They all have enough self pride to win," said Conway. "I'm really not surprised they have done so well as a team and gotten the individual honors. They've done things like this through high school."

After high school, only one of the players. Colleen Huffstutler, is looking for a possible volleyball tie-in to her collegiate career. "Volleyball will help, in that I plan on majoring in physical education." said Huffstutler. "I want to coach someday. Volleyball is definitely in my future."

She was married to William Jay McCrary in 1988 in California. William Jay McCrary was educated in 1988 in Los Angeles, Orange County, California.
