28. George Washington Marquis
was born on Jan 20 1867 in Hamilton County, Illinois. He was born on a
Sunday. George is listed as G.W. Marquis, age 3 in the 1870 Hamilton County,
Illinois Census. Helen Huffstutler Ferreira recalls that G.W. was a gentle man
and had a marvelous talent for music. She remembers he had the ability to play
several instruments. Helen also said that G.W. was blind.
He died on Mar 17 1959 in McLeansboro, Hamilton County, Illinois. He died
on a Tuesday. George W. Marquis lived 92 years, 1 month, and 28 days. McLeansboro
Times-Leader, March 19, 1959 states that G.W. had two nieces: Mrs. Nelly Heady,
Beason, Illinois; Mrs. Ella Miller, Chicago, Illinois. These are the two daughters
of Mariah Elizabeth (Marquis) Moss listed in her obituary of 1935. He was buried
on Mar 19 1959 in Benton Cemetery, Benton, Franklin County, Illinois.
