8. Mariah Marquis was born in Aug 1822 in Posey County, Indiana. Mariah's name would have been pronounced as we would today say "Maria." Mariah is listed in the 1850 census for Smith Township in Posey County, Indiana. She was living with her brother, Perry G. Marquis, and is listed as 28 years old. Mariah was then listed as 37 years old in the Hamilton County, Illinois Census of 1860 taken on July 18, 1860 by Wm. Choisser, Assistant Marshall. In comparing the two ages and dates for the census records, it is easy to calculate that Mariah would have been born around August of 1822.

She was married to Ira Wilkins about 1850 in Indiana. Ira Wilkins was born in 1826 in Indiana. Ira was listed as 34 years old in the Hamilton County Census of 1860 taken on July 18, 1860. He was a farmer at that time, owning $800 of land in Hamilton County, Illinois and $100 in personal property. Mariah Marquis and Ira Wilkins had the following children:

child20 iii. John T. Wilkins was born about Apr 1860 in Hamilton County, Illinois. John is listed as 3 months old in the Hamilton County Census of 1860 taken on July 18, 1860 by Wm. Choisser, Assistant Marshall. John's birth date may actually be anywhere from March 19, 1860 to April 17, 1860 based on the date the 1860 Census was taken.
