23. Sarah F. Marquis
was born in 1856 in Hamilton County, Illinois. Sarah may have been born in
the spring of 1856, simply calculated back from her youngest brother Joseph's
birth date of July, 1857. Sarah is accurately listed in the Hamilton County,
Illinois census of 1860. Her age then was 4 years old. She was Perry Marquis'
and Elizabeth Martin's only daughter and the first child born to them after moving
from Indiana to Illinois. Sarah would have probably been named after her grandmother
Sarah Rogers Marquis.
Sarah is listed as Susan in the Hamilton County, Illinois census of 1870. Her
age was recorded as 14, confirming her birth date around the year 1856. The
conclusion is that this is the same person since Sarah and Susan are very similar
style names, plus Sarah herself claims her birth year as 1856 on her marriage
license to David Banes. Both documents would concur that Sarah was 14 years
old in 1870. The original census documents, when examined, can be interpreted
as Sarah especially since the name "Susan" begins with an "S",
has the same number of letters plus the "s" and "n" do look
like an "r" and an "h". Obviously confusing unless you read
the original document. This information is supplemented by the Hamilton County,
Illinois census of 1860, taken on the 18th day of July, 1860 for Dwelling and
Family Number 678 and Marriage records index, Hamilton County, Illinois.
She died before 1907 in Hamilton County, Illinois. According to The Leader,
McLeansboro, Hamilton County, Illinois, Sarah F. Marquis died before 1907 since
she was listed as deceased in the obituary of her father, Perry Green Marquis.
She may be buried near her late husband David L. Banes at Antioch Cemetery in
Hamilton County, Illinois, a fact yet to be substantiated.

David L. Banes was born in 1854 in Illinois. He
was the son of William T. and July Ann Barnes according to the Hamilton County,
Illinois census taken on June 21st, 1860 for dwelling No. 275. He was a farmer
in 1880 in Hamilton County, Illinois. This was according to the Register of
Deaths, Hamilton County, Illinois.
He died on Jul 30 1880 in Hamilton County, Illinois. David died on a Friday
afternoon, at 4:00pm of Naphitic Colic after being afflicted for 8 days. He
