29. Gardner Dodge III was born on Sep 22 1822 in Nova Scotia, Canada. Gardner's obituary records his date of birth and the U.S. Census of 1880 for Iowa County, Wisconsin lists his age as 57 years old. He was a in 1843 in Wisconsin. Gardner's obituary states: "Mr. Dodge at the age of 21 years went to the city of Boston where he spent one year and then came to Wisconsin in the year 1843. He engaged in the lumber business in the winter of 1844." Gardner's obituary continues: in 1847, "he moved to the state of Maine, working in the lumber business until the year 1852 when he came west with his family, settling in the Mounds Creek Valley. After a few years he purchased a home from G.M. Ashmore on which he died." He died on Dec 29 1908 in Mounds Creek Valley, Iowa County, Wisconsin. Gardner's obituary states: "Mr Gardner was a kind and obliging neighbor, his house was always open and a welcome was extended to the needy and suffering and none went from his door hungry. In the death of Mr. Dodge, a kind an indulging father, an industrious, honest and sober citizen will be lost. Mr. Dodge's sickness was of a short duration, lasting a little more than a week. He died at the age of 86 years, 3 months, and 7 days." He was buried on Dec 31 1908 in Arena, Iowa County, Wisconsin. Gardner's obituary states: "The funeral was from the A.C. Church on the 31st. Services were conducted by Elder B.N. Meigs, assisted by Elder (Thaddeus) Stephens of Mendota College." According to the Arena, WI published newspaper obituary of Gardner Dodge, Gardner and his wife Lucinda had 12 children.

He was married to Lucinda Cox on Sep 30 1846 in Horton, Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Gardner Dodge's obituary states: "returned to his native place and in the year 1845 was married to Miss Lucinda Cox." The "Sun Newspaper" of Nova Scotia for Monday, OCT 5, 1846, states that Gardner Dodge and Miss Lucinda Cox were married on a Wednesday by Rev. G.J. McDonald. Lucinda Cox was born about 1827 in Horton, Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Lucinda's birthplace is recorded in the 1880 census of Arena, Iowa County, WI taken June 12th, 1880. Her age is listed in 1880 as 53 years old. Her birth date is approximated from this record. She died in 1889. The published newspaper obituary of Gardner Dodge records Lucinda's year of her death. Gardner Dodge III and Lucinda Cox had the following children:

37 ii. Amanda Dodge was born in 1858 in Wisconsin. Amanda is listed as 22 years old and the eldest child of Gardner and Lucinda Dodge in the 1880 census of Arena, Iowa County, Wisconsin taken June 12th, 1880. A marriage record in Volume 03 page 473 exist for Amanda recording that she was married on November 10, 1882.
38 iii. Henry Dodge was born in 1861 in Wisconsin. Henry is listed as 19 years old and a farmer in the 1880 census of Arena, Iowa County, WI taken June 12th, 1880.
39 iv. Leonard Dodge was born in 1864 in Wisconsin. Leonard is listed as 16 years old and a farmer in the 1880 census of Arena, Iowa County, WI taken June 12th, 1880.
40 v. Frederick Ben Dodge was born in 1869 in Wisconsin. Frederick's birth year is recorded in the United States Census for 1880 of Arena, Iowa County, WI taken June 12th, 1880. He died in 1909 in Iowa County, Wisconsin. A marriage record for Iowa County, Wisconsin shows that Fred Ben Dodge was married on June 10, 1889 as recorded in Volume 03 page 115.
